Case Study: complex dust extraction systems at Woodeco

.Industry: Woodworking industry
Project objective: Dust reduction and waste disposal in the form of dust and chips at a chipboard production plant (dust explosion class St1).

NEU-JKF, specializing in industrial dust extraction solutions, carried out a modernization of the dust collection system at the Woodeco Grajewo plant. The installation was designed in accordance with the facility’s technological requirements and environmental standards. The process includes, among other elements, dust extraction from the sanding machine and the saw room using a SuperBlower-type filter, as well as safe pneumatic conveying to the dust storage silo.

Key elements of the installation

The system comprises several integrated technological systems.

1. At the heart of the implemented system is a Superblower bag filter, which, thanks to its high performance and separation efficiency, is excellent at removing dry dust from the air.
• Capacity: 50,000 m³/h

2. The SBF filter is integrated with a Blower cyclone filter, from which the filtered material is transferred to a silo.
• Capacity: 8,000 m³/h

3. The latest investment involves the modernization of pneumatic transport of material from two existing filters to a Blower cyclone filter, from which the material is transported further by a mechanical conveyor.
• Capacity: 10,000 m³/h

Technical solutions

The first component of the installation is the existing filter responsible for dust removal from the grinder. The filtered material then goes to the JA-65 cyclone, supplied by NEU-JKF – the pneumatic transport works in a closed system.
Another component of the system is the new SBF filter with a capacity of 50,000 m³/h. The unit is equipped with a VFV® explosive venting system. The explosion membranes are located in the roof of the filter, eliminating the need for safety zones around the unit. The SBF filter has a state-of-the-art, patented Power Pulse® cleaning system, which is currently the cheapest to operate in its class. The SBF filter receives material from five different dust sources, with an expected filtered volume of 5 t/h. Together with the waste discharged from the cyclone, this material is pneumatically transported to the BF cyclofilter located on the dust tank (silo).
In turn, from the BF cyclofilter, the waste is directed directly to the silo, which ensures safe and efficient storage of the waste material.
The entire plant has been designed in accordance with the requirements of the ATEX directive, which guarantees safe operation also in conditions of dust explosion risk.
In addition, NEU-JKF has modernized the existing piping of the dust extraction installation.

Security solutions

The system has been equipped with ATEX-compliant components including explosion diaphragms located on the roof of the filter to ensure safe operation in potentially explosive conditions, as well as non-return dampers or sluices.
